Assessment Centre

BSL Text

We run an assessment centre for deaf children wherever they are taught. The wide expertise within the Academy enables us to provide a comprehensive assessment of the needs and abilities of each child. We can assess intellectual functioning, communication skills (speech and language as well as BSL), social and emotional development, fine and gross motor skills, literacy and numeracy skills and additional special needs such as autism.

Staff include a Clinical Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Educational Audiologist, Teachers of the Deaf and BSL Tutors. Staff have very good signing skills as well as being highly competent in their specialist roles.

An assessment report is produced which summarises the assessments made and the conclusions reached. It also lists a series of recommendations in the kinds of support that the deaf child will need.

The assessments are charged at a not-for-profit rate, and the Academy has details of grant-making trusts who have helped pay for these kinds of assessments in the past.
