BSL Training
We are part of the I-Sign project which is a Government funded initiative to improve the numbers of people who are skilled in BSL. This has enabled us to expand our BSL provision so that we can now offer BSL courses in Levels 1,2 3 and 6. These are all accredited courses, and are suitable for those who work with deaf people or would just like to develop a skill in sign language.
The courses are predominantly run in the Training Centre at the Academy, but can be delivered in other parts of the South West subject to there being sufficient demand. This year we have set up a satellite Centre in Bradley Stoke, Bristol and will be running BSL Levels 3 and 6 (formerly Level 4) from September 2010.
All tutors are regularly assessed as part of the Academy's quality assurance processes. Pass rates for our courses are very good.
Level 1 courses are delivered in 2 hour lessons for 26 weeks (evenings only)
Level 2 courses are delivered in 2.5 hour lessons for 36 weeks (evenings only)
Level 3 NVQ Certificate courses are delivered over 20 days
Level 6 NVQ Certificate (Fast-Track) courses are delivered over 7 days
