Parent of deaf child organises fundraising concert for Deaf Academy

Kathy Kenny, whose daughter attends the Deaf Academy in Exeter, is organising a fundraising concert for the Academy. The concert will feature classical romantic pieces and Kathy herself will be performing along with other highly accomplished musicians from throughout the UK.

The concert will raise funds for a samba drum set at the Academy. These have proved popular with Academy students in the past, as they can pick up the vibrations through the drums even if they cannot hear the sounds. “To have our own set of samba drums would be fantastic”, said Lee Fullwood, Head of School at the Academy. “We have seen how much our students have enjoyed using them in the past when we have borrowed a set for the day, and to be able to use them more often would be tremendous”.

The concert will take place on Thursday 24 February 2011 at 7.30 pm at the Mint Centre, Fore Street, Exeter - for further information see the poster and read the press release.  Tickets can be purchased from Amanda Denham, Head of Fundraising at the Academy, by emailing fundraising@exeterdeafacademy.ac.uk or telephoning 01392 267089.
