Pre–school
From September 2009, St Leonard’s pre-school, an independent pre-school for up to 30 local children, will be based at the Academy and is for hearing and deaf children. Staff are being trained in deaf awareness and BSL, and the pre-school offers an excellent opportunity for deaf children to learn and play within a deaf-friendly environment. The pre-school is inspected by Ofsted and delivers the foundation stage curriculum.
Sessions run in the morning and afternoon. Currently, on Monday and Tuesday the pre-school runs from 8.45 to 2.45. On Wednesday the pre-school runs from 8.45-11.45 and on Thursday and Friday from 8.45 to 12.45.
The pre-school has a kitchen area, a ‘messy’ room, a calmer room and an outdoor area which is scheduled to be transformed by November 2009 (see courtyard brief). The pre-school is fully self-contained, but is also able to access some of the specialist areas within the wider Academy such as the multi-use games area, Academy hall, interactive sensory pod and adventure play area.
