Residential Life

Module main decoration

Exeter is a small and vibrant city, and the Deaf Academy is well known within it and valued by its residents. It is an excellent environment for you to develop your independence as well as excel educationally.

There is a great shopping centre with lots of cafes and independent shops, a museum, several theatres, art galleries and cinemas, plus a stunning Cathedral and Quayside and much more on our doorstep! Set in twelve acres of grounds overlooking the River Exe, the Academy is just ten minutes walk from the city centre and only a few miles from sea and open countryside.

The Academy is ten minutes drive from the M5, half an hour’s walk from Exeter St David’s train station and fifteen minutes' drive from Exeter airport. For maps and directions, please visit the Contact Us section.

If you are a residential student at the Deaf Academy, you can benefit from and build on the support and friendship of your Deaf peers outside of the college day. There are many social activities in the evenings and at weekends that will help develop your sign language and communication skills. As a college student, you will also receive specialist tutorial support to help you with your coursework.

We find our students enjoy relaxing with friends in a comfortable and exciting community, particularly those students who study at one of our mainstream partner GFE colleges. This community setting aids their transition into a mainstream GFE college and can support their learning with hearing peers.
