Onsite Nurse

The Deaf Academy employs a qualified Nuse who works closely with the staff and students across School and College.

The Academy's onsite Nurse's role is hugely diverse. First and foremost, the Academy Nurse is the essential link between our students and their access to health provision. The nurse provides confidential one to one support for students who wish to discuss health and wellbeing matters and also is a point of BSL contact that our students know they can trust. The Academy Nurse conducts yearly training sessions on common medical conditions with Academy staff and also provides training for those who have to administer medication to students.

The Academy Nurse is proactive in health promotion and works with our School and College students to provide group or 1:1 sessions discussing a variety of health topics. The Nurse liaises closely with parents and carers to address any medical or health and wellbeing issues of individual students that they feel the Academy can address or be actively involved in promoting.

The Academy Nurse works in partnership with all interested and relevant parties including all Academy staff, parents/carers, and community healthcare professionals to ensure the students’ medical and health policies are planned, implemented and maintained successfully.
