Residential Activities

The wellbeing and personal development of your child at the Deaf Academy is paramount both in and out of the classroom. The Academy’s Care Staff offer residential school students a range of activities once the school day has finished.

Care Staff take into account parental/carer consent, the nature and level of your child’s abilities, whether or not your child may need staff support and importantly conduct any risk assessments before they take your child out on activities and trips. Lots of the activities are built into your child’s Person Centred Plan, which helps them to achieve their future ambitions.

Usually, on a Monday morning, Care Staff will work out the activity plan for the week, taking into consideration any requests that have come directly from the students. Weekly plans can include shopping trips, going swimming, BBQs in the woods, going to the beach, going bowling and even baking to name but a few! Our Care Staff also support students with any homework or reading which they may have and there is a weekly homework club on Thursdays which is popular with the students.
