We have an on-site Academy Nurse, who provides general day-to-day medical care for both our day and residential students. If you are a residential student, we also have a weekly visit by a local GP that you can access. Alongside providing general day-to-day medical care, the Academy Nurse plays a crucial role in supporting you – and your family/carers – if you have additional complex needs or any long term medical conditions so that you can get the most out of your time at the Deaf Academy.
The Academy Nurse will work collaboratively with you, your parents/carers and other specialist staff (Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Audiologists and Physiotherapists), to provide individual Health Care Plans for your time at the Deaf Academy. Your Health Care Plan will contribute to and support your Student Care Plan. The Academy Nurse also works closely with staff across the Academy to give them any advice and guidance they may need about your individual needs. The support she gives them will make sure you have access to education on a continuous basis and not be disadvantaged by any medical needs you may have.
