A World of Colour

When: 06 August 2018

On the last day of term, our school Theatre Group performed a special show called a World of Colour. Together with PaddleBoat Theatre Company, they have been working to present their own testimonies and create theatre that shares their stories with each other.

The aim was to communicate what it means to be a Deaf teenager in a hearing world; What does being Deaf look like? Or sound like? Or feel like?

Inspired by abstract artwork, they looked at how big ideas and powerful meanings can be found in colours, shapes and brushstrokes - and then turned their own stories into works of art.

The show was initially performed at the Exeter Phoenix, before bringing it to the Academy to show parents, staff and other students.

Paddleboat's artistic director Katy Dash said:

"Students did themselves and the school proud when they performed their show. We are always amazed by their talent and hard work!"
