Medical Needs

The health and wellbeing of students plays an important part in their education at the Deaf Academy.

We have a qualified Academy nurse who provides general day-to-day medical care for both our day and residential students. There are also weekly GP visits for our residential students. Alongside providing day-to-day medical care for students, the nurse plays a crucial role in supporting children with additional complex needs and long term medical conditions, and their families, to get the most out of their time at the Academy.

Working collaboratively with you and your child and other specialist staff (Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Audiologists and Physiotherapists), the nurse provides individual Health Care Plans for your child’s time at the Academy. The Health Care plan will contribute to and support your child’s Student Care Plan. The nurse also works closely with staff across the Academy giving advice and guidance on individual student needs and facilitating support where necessary to ensure all students can access education on a continuous basis and not be disadvantaged due to their medical needs.
